helping to make dental care accessible for everyone
Dr Romi Fried (Bsc, DDS)
the
neurodivergent
dentist
— neurodivergent people deserve better oral healthcare —
Key Principles of Neuroaffirming Dentistry
Different brains, just like different plants in nature, need different conditions to grow and thrive.
Respect
for each person’s unique way of processing information and for each person’s sensory needs
Diversity
reducing the barriers that different marginalised groups may face when accessing healthcare
Autonomy
each person deserves to be empowered to make their own decisions about their own care
Prevention
addressing early risk factors for disease (specific to neurodivergent folk) to reduce the number of dental emergencies and general anaesthetics
Accessibility
healthcare environments need to be accessible to everyone, regardless of neurotype
Collaboration
working with clinicians and dental practices to adopt a neuroaffirming approach as well as educating the broader community about neurodiversity
let’s change the world
rather than forcing people to change who they are
